NIWA woodlot tour June 18th

Dear Members,

Saturday on June the 18th, we will join Alex Hartford in his woodlot licence W0025 (first woodlot on Quadra Island) and discuss beside his extensive woodlot knowledge the fire danger management and fuel mitigation strategies in the rural interface forest.

When: June 18th, 10:00 am. Take the 9:30 ferry to Quadra Island – car pooling is highly recommended due to limited ferry capacity. You probably need to be quite early in the line-up to ensure that you get on. Also, if you want to walk-on, Jerry is waiting on the other side and can take 5 passengers in his truck. Here is a link to the ferry cam: http://qiha.ca/ferry/ferrycam-cr.html

How to get there: On Quadra Island, follow West Road north, pass the junction of Gowlland Harbour Road and turn immediately right into Woodlot W0025 (sign). There is a parking area shortly thereafter which is the initial meeting point (see map below).

The field trip is planned to last about 2 hours, all roads are in good condition, also for 2 wheel drives.

Please bring the family, we hope for lovely summer weather, dogs are welcome.

Hungry? You are invited after the field trip to travel to Rebecca Spit Provincial Park for a lunch and opportunity to socialize in this era of Covid recovery. We will have the BBQ along and some liquid refreshments (water, beer, cider & juice) provided by NIWA. Please bring your personal food and BBQ items, plates and cutlery.

We hope to see you there, best wishes,

Wolfram Wollenheit,

NIWA President
