Gord made the rounds at the end of May, travelling to Malcolm Island, Quadra Island and the Fraser Valley to meet with woodlotters and attend woodlot association meetings. Woodlots BC at BCCFA Conference
Community forests are woodlots' younger siblings that were born bigger and bolder! They are area-based tenures created for communities and now the forests are being managed, and re-imagined by their local communities.
The beautiful thing about small and smallish local based area tenures is that solutions for local concerns are being developed by local communities. Gord and I attended the BC Community Forests AGM this week (June 11-13, 2024) held in bright and beautiful Mackenzie, BC. The agenda was chock full of interesting topics, a field tour and my favourite: an early morning stop at the bird banding station.
Sponsorship Opportunity
The 2024 Woodlots BC Conference will be hosted in the beautiful city of Quesnel. The three day conference will be one to remember with an evening social, a day of local field trips, a day filled with informative speaker presentations, followed by a banquet and silent auction on the final evening.
This conference is an opportunity for BC woodlot licensees, First Nations communities, researchers, practitioners, contractors, government staff, and other stakeholders interested in small-scale forestry to engage in valuable conversation about the ever-changing forest industry. Last year, there were 170 delegates, representing all the BC forest regions and hailing from 62 different communities.
These relationships are extremely important, and Woodlots BC is pleased to facilitate the opportunity to bring everyone together. The registration package will be available in the summer issue of The Woodland Almanac and online in July on the Woodlots BC website. If you are interested in sponsoring the conference, please check out the link below.
